From Litigator to Trusted Advisor
Kieran Carter spent the first 15 years of her legal career at the intersection of tax law, high-stakes litigation, legacy planning. As a senior trial attorney in the U.S. Department of Justice’s Tax Division, she led litigation in complex tax and fiduciary cases across the country—often involving multi-million-dollar disputes, trust structures, and closely held assets.
Kieran also served in DOJ leadership as Counsel to the Deputy Assistant Attorney General for Policy and Planning at the Tax Division, advising on tax cases before the Supreme Court and handling sensitive matters involving the IRS, Congress, and the White House. Prior to DOJ, she was a criminal prosecutor for the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office in Fairfax County, Virginia, where she tried over 400 bench trials and 24 jury trials.
Today, Kieran helps clients navigate sophisticated tax strategy and estate transitions. She offers tax planning not in isolation, but as part of a broader, integrated wealth management strategy that considers estate planning and potential litigation risks. She also seeks to empower families to foster a shared vision for their wealth, providing legal frameworks to equip and inspire the next generation to learn, lead, and contribute to their family’s enduring legacy.
